Influence of Gender and Locale on Adjustment and Personality Traits

Abstract

Adolescence is the most crucial stage of human life. The present investigation was attempted to find out the influence of gender and locale and their interaction on adjustment and personality of adolescents. The sample comprised of 200 adolescents(100 girls & 100 boys) randomly drawn fromdifferent government schools of Haryana situated in urban and rural areas of Kurukshetra. The participants were tested on the 16 PF (Cattell.R.B.et al.1993),andadjustment inventory (Asthana 1968). Data were analyzed with the help of t-test and 2×2 analysis of variance. Results showed significant influence of gender and locale on adolescents’ personality and adjustment. A significant influence of locale on factors B. E and G of personality were observed. Further, results demonstrated significant influence of gender on factors C, E, G, and I factors of personality. Results also indicated interactive influence of gender and locale on factors G, Q1and Q3 of personality. Gender and locale along with their interactive influence demonstrated significant results on adjustment also, indicating that gender and area of residence influence the personality and adjustment problems faced by adolescents These findings are of paramount importance for parents, teachers, psychologists, counselors, and school administrators to comprehend the impact of gender and locale on adjustment and personality development in adolescents.
