Sex Education a Sensitive issue in Teaching-Learning Process: A study of Teachers Attitude towards Sex Education

Abstract

Education is an attempt to mould and shape behavior of students. Education in every form modifies the personality of students for making them a responsible citizen. Since human beings living in this society have many inner urges and drives, one of them is sex i.e. a powerful drive. Children often become curious about things related to this drive and misleading, inadequate and improper information regarding such sensitive issue causes an unhealthy attitude. For educating our adolescents the role of teacher is very crucial. In this paper researcher has attempted to find out attitude of secondary school teachers towards sex education. The main objectives of the study were to study the attitude of secondary school teachers towards sex education and to compare their attitudes according to gender and age group. The sample of the study comprised 100 secondary school teachers selected randomly from CBSE schools of Varanasi. A self made tool with twenty five items was used to assess the attitude of teachers. The data was analyzed by using student’s t test. It was found that male and female school teachers had positive attitude towards sex education and also there was no difference in attitude of different age grouped teachers.
