Relationship between Emotional Maturity and Peer Pressure of Adolescents

Emotional Maturity refers to the process in which the personality is continuously striving for a greater sense of emotional health, both intra-psychically and intrapersonally (Smitson, 1974 as cited in Singh & Bhargava, 1990) peer pressure involve restricting individual’s capacity to make decisions and engage in behavior of their own volition by making them feel uncomfortable about asserting their own opinions. The aim of the present study is to analyse the relationship between emotional maturity and peer pressure. Through purposive sampling, 43, 2nd year PUC students of a private college in Bangalore were selected. The results indicated that the participants of the study are extremely emotionally immature and possess moderate level of peer pressure. The findings indicated that there is no significant gender difference in emotional maturity but significant gender difference was found in peer pressure. Significant association was found between emotional maturity and peer pressure.
