Job Satisfaction of Teachers: A Study of Public schools of three districts of Punjab

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the concept of job satisfaction of teachers and difference in their job satisfaction level based on type of school and gender. A survey-based descriptive research was done. A group of 750 teachers (375 from primary schools and 375 from high schools) were selected as sample in this investigation from three districts of PunjabAmritsar, Gurdaspur and TarnTaran. The short form of Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) was used to collect the data. T- test was used to check the variance in job satisfaction based on type of school and gender. The results showed that both primary and high school teachers varied in their intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction level whereas both males and females have same level of extrinsic job satisfaction only. The findings of this study throw light on improving the satisfaction of teachers to improve the quality of education and overall development of students. The recommendations made include the need to improve working conditions, recognition, variety and creativity in job.
