Anxiety and Perceived Stress among Women Victims of Domestic Violence: A Comparative Study

Violence against women is one of the major global concerns. All around the world it poses a threat and brings the concerned women’s existence into question. It shatters the self-esteem, hurts the dignity of a women. Violence of any form poses a major threat on the health and wellbeing of a woman. It changes the women’s perception about everything around them and they tend to perceive everything as stressful. In this background the present study is an attempt to ascertain anxiety and perceived stress among women victims of domestic violence and to compare the findings with their non-victim counterparts. For the said purpose the study was conducted on 400 women victims of domestic violence and 400 non-victim women. They were selected randomly from different areas of Tripura. Data were collected from the subjects with the help of State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Perceived Stress Scale. Face to face interview technique was used for data collection and for data analysis,‘t’ test was employed. Findings of the present study showed that victim and non-victim women differed significantly with respect to their level of anxiety (state and trait) and perceived stress.
