Spectrum of Neurotic Problems in HIV/AIDS Patients

Abstract

Increasing incidence of HIV/AIDS and its negative impact on the society is a major challenge for researchers, social workers and the health experts. The rapid growth of this disease itself is an alarming threat because it is difficult to deal with its biological impact on the patient. At the same time, it is making the patients more prone to develop poor mental health since the disease is highly associated with grief and stress. The patients suffer from the physiological symptoms, the social stigma, a trauma at personal and family level, difficulty at work due to the accompanying biological, psychological and economic problems, etc. Therefore, this study aimed at evaluating some neurotic symptoms, i.e., the level of anxiety, anxiety related disorders, somatic complaints and depression in HIV/AIDS patients as compared to healthy controls.
