Psychosocial Predictors of Suicide Ideation among Adolescents

Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the psychosocial predictors of suicidal ideation among adolescents. The study was carried out on a sample of 500 adolescents (age range of 1216 years) with an equal number of male and female in the study. The sample was drawn from various educational institutes of three districts of Haryana state (India). Beck scale for suicidal ideation, Child Depression Inventory, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale and School Environment Scale were used to measure suicidal ideation, depression, self-esteem and school environment. The stepwise multiple regression was done. Results shows that the depression, peer conflicts and academic pressure are positive predictors whereas self-esteem, peer support, school belongingness turned out to be significant negative of suicidal ideation among adolescent students. Findings are discussed in the light of previous studies and their implications.
