Parental Encouragement and Self-Concept: A Study Based on Familial Variables

Abstract

Present study was an attempt to assess the influence of familial factors on parental encouragement and self-concept of higher secondary students. This study was conducted among thousand ninety five higher secondary students from Southernmost Tamilnadu. Standardized Parental Encouragement Scale and Self-Concept Scale were used in this study. The findings revealed that the students of nuclear family have received better parental encouragement on academic activities, social activities, moral support and decision-making. The fathers’ who were educated upto college level and without reached school education gave more encouragement on academic activities and social activities respectively. The fathers’ who were educated in the school level promoted the temperamental self-concept of their children. The significant positive relationship between parental encouragement and self-concept of higher secondary students was observed.
