Role of Age, Depression, and Affective Dysregulation in Suicide Ideation Among Males

Abstract

The current study made an attempt to examine the role of age, depression and affective dysregulation in suicide ideation, an important first component of suicide process. The sample comprised of two different groups of adolescence. Mid- adolescence group comprised of 100 boys in the age range of 15-17 years, whereas late –adolescence group comprised of 100 boys in the age range of 18-20 years. They were administered Beck’s scale for suicide ideation, Zung’s self rating depression scale, and Mezzich’s affective dysregulation subscale. The application of 2X2X2 (age: mid-adolescence vs late adolescence, depression: high vs low, affective dysregulation: high vs low) ANOVA revealed that affective dysregulation overshadowed the obtained non-significant role of global depression as measured by self report measure in suicide ideation, especially at mid adolescence.
