Correlates of Depression Symptoms Among Rural Teenagers

The current study examined the relationship between socio-personal variables and depression among rural teenagers of Haryana. The participants of the study were 80 teenagers in the age group of 11-15 years, equally representing both the sexes selected from senior secondary schools. Teenage depression was measured by Kovac’s (2003) Children Depression Inventory. The study found that one-fourth of total sample reported depression symptoms and it had a positive and significant association with gender of the respondents. Recommendations of the study centre on the need to examine the reports of parents and teachers on depression among teenagers and suitable counseling program.
