A cross-sectional study of Adolescent Aggression

Abstract

Adolescence is often considered as the period of storm and stress. Aggression is an intentional act carried out to hurt or injure the other person and includes varied forms like physical, verbal, indirect aggression etc. The present investigation was attempted to find out the influence of gender and age on aggression of adolescents. The sample comprised of 300 adolescents, 150 adolescents (75 females and 75 males) belonging to the age group of 12 to 14 yrs, and 150 adolescents (75 females and 75 males) belonging to 18 to 20 yrs , drawn from different government schools and colleges of Yamuna Nagar and Kurukshetra districts of Haryana. The participants were tested on the Aggression Questionnaire (Buss and Warren, 2000). Data were analysed with the help of ANOVA . Results showed significant influence of gender and age on adolescents’ aggression. The results obtained highlight how preventive and developmental programmes for curbing aggression among adolescents need to be tailor made according to the age and gender of the adolescents, for effective management of rising aggression among adolescents.
