Influence of Mothers’ Nurturance on Self-Esteem of Children

Abstract

Parent - child relationship is considered to be the most enduring and significant relationship in one’s life. Self-esteem is one’s own judgment and attitude toward the self. It is one of the measures of children’s overall mental health. The present study was aimed at studying the influence of mothers ‘nurturance on the self esteem of children. A sample of 100 children aged between 9 and 11 year were selected through systematic sampling technique from 3 schools in Thrissur, Kerala. Parental Nurturance Scale and Moray’s Self-esteem Scale were used to collect the data. Results showed that there is a significant relationship between mothers’ nurturance and self-esteem, also self-esteem is significantly influenced by mothers’ nurturance.
