Academic Expectations Stress Among High School Students

The present study was conducted toexamine whether thereis any significant difference between male and female students in academic expectations stress and to see whether there is any significant relationship between teachers’/parents’ expectations and self-expectations.Further, an attempt is also made to study the academic expectations stress of the sample belonging to the joint family and nuclear family. A total of 192 high school students were asked to respond to the Academic Expectations Stress Inventory (AESI) developed by Ang and Huan (2006). The results revealed that male and female high school students differ significantly in academic expectations stress, and female students have shown more academic stress than male.Significant influence of teachers’/parents’ expectations on self-expectations was also found.The results indicated that students belonging to nuclear and joint family statusdiffer significantly in academic expectations stress.
