Impact of Quality of Couple Relationship on Suicidal Ideation and Related Psychosocial Variables of Gay Men.

Abstract

The present study deals with suicidal ideation in homosexuals (Gay men). Attempts were also made to assess their coping strategy, quality of interpersonal relationship and level of happiness. The total sample was divided into two groups i.e. gay men who are in a stable relationship with their sexual partner (GSR) and gay men who are not in a stable relationship with their sexual partner (GVR). Each group was consisted of 25 respondent age ranging between17–32, selected from Non-Governmental organizations (NGO) of Kolkata. Thus the total sample was 50. In case of suicidal ideation, quality of inter-personal relationship and happiness significant difference was found between the two groups. The two groups i.e. GSR and GVR were not found to differ significantly in case of coping strategy. Furthermore, suicidal ideation is found to be associated with quality of interpersonal relationship and the level of happiness of the gay men whereas suicidal ideation and coping strategy not found to be significantly correlated with each other.
