Executive Function and Visuo-Conceptual Ability in Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder

Abstract

Present study was intended to assess and compare the performance of ADHD and normal children on executive function and visuo-conceptual ability. A sample of 120 boys in the age range of 7- 13 years was drawn on the basis of availability from government and private psychiatric nursing homes located at Rohtak, Haryana (India). The participants were divided into three groups i.e inattentive, hyperactive /impulsive and combined group, having 30 boys in each of the group. A matched control group, having 30 boys was also included. They were administered FAS phonemic fluency test and picture completion test. The data were analyzed using simple ANOVA followed by Duncan’s post hoc test. Findings revealed that there was significant difference in the performance of ADHD and normal children in visuo- conceptual ability but there was no difference in verbal fluency which is taken as a measure of executive function.
