Abstract

Ten children having autism spectrum disorder (ASD) were tested on Bender-Visio Motor Gestalt test to determine their concepts of spatial relationship, size, shape and concepts. The same test was administered on normal children within the same range of Intelligence Quotient (IQ) as that of children with ASD. The children having ASD showed an inability to acquire concepts of spatial relationship, size, and shape comparison through verbal instruction. Findings support the notion that the basic cognitive deficit is Visio spatial impairment, including deviation of the symbolic/representational function.
