Abstract

The present investigation was undertaken to assess the influence of presence / absence of fathers on the level of self-esteem of adolescents. The influence of fathers’ presence / absence on adolescent self-esteem is relatively a new field for research. There is very little research to ascertain the impact of the fathers’ presence and involvement in the lives of adolescents. The Goa’s migration scenario makes a good reason for the study, coupled with the need to ascertain the role of the fathers’ presence in the development of the self-esteem of adolescents. The Rosenberg's self-esteem scale was administered to a stratified sample of 100 students of class IX and X. The results indicate that there is no significant difference in the level of self-esteem in adolescents with regards to their fathers’ presence / absence. Also, there is no significant difference in the level of self-esteem between adolescent boys and girls in the sample.
