A study of creative thinking among senior secondary school students in relation to their personality

Abstract

This paper intends to explore the association between creative thinking and personality factors of senior secondary school students of Rohtak District, Haryana (India). Three hundred senior secondary school students from Rohtak District were selected on the basis of random sampling. All the participants were administered measures of creative thinking and 16 personality factor questionnaire following a standard and uniform procedure. The obtained data were analyzed by simple correlation. Significant and positive association was found between creativity and personality factors C (Affected by feelings Vs Emotionally stable), F  (Sober Vs Happy-go-lucky), H (Shy Vs Venturesome), I (Tough minded Vs Tender minded), L (Trusting Vs Suspicious), M (Practical Vs imaginative), N (Forth right Vs Shrewd), Q1 (Conservative Vs Experimenting), Q2 (Group dependent Vs Self sufficient), Q3 (Undisciplined self conflict Vs Controlled), Q4 (Relaxed Vs Tense). Findings revealed that highly creative adolescents were- happy go-lucky, venturesome, sensitive, suspicious, imaginative, socially aware, experimenting, self-sufficient, controlled and tense. Interestingly, significant and negative association of creative thinking was found with personality factor A ( reserved Vs outgoing) and factor B   (less intelligent Vs more intelligent). Findings are discussed in the light of previous researches.
