Abstract

This article is based on the research conducted on senior secondary student for understanding the impact of prolonged deprivation, goal orientation and gender on their behaviour patterns. The study included 100 senior secondary school students selected on the basis of random sampling. Three standardized research tools viz; Prolonged Deprivation Scale, Goal Orientation Scale and Behaviour Patterns Scale were used for data collection. Analysis was done by using correlation, multiple regression and ANOVA. Results indicated that prolonged deprivation does not contribute significantly in determining the behaviour patterns; however, goal orientation and gender contribute significantly in determining the behaviour pattern of students. Findings of the study have implications for the educators in understanding that deprivation and goal orientation do not have significant role in determining the behaviour patterns of student but gender plays an important role. The results highlight that gender has emerged as the most influential factor in all the three domains studied, hence gender of the student should be kept in mind while providing any counselling, guidance or planning any strategy.
