Revisiting Draw a Person Test: Ringing the Bell Backward

Abstract

The DAP is a projective test used for the assessment of personality. The subject is simply required to drawa person in the assessment. The DAP shares many characteristics with other projective tests and widely used for the assessment of personality of children, and adults along with other tests in educational and medical settings. It can be easily administered alone or in group settings in a short period of time. Drawing a human figure is a universal form of drawing. The test per se has good reliability and validity and the technique is considered to be less subject to cultural and age restrictions than many other projective techniques. However, the utility of the test seems to be diminishing with time. Hence an attempt is made to revisit the test backward. A case study demonstrated the psycho-diagnostic and psychotherapeutic value of the DAP.
