ROLE OF FAMILY ENVIRONMENT IN COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to explore the role of family in the cognitive development of the child. For this purpose, a sample of 50 children in pre operational and concrete operational stage of cognitive growth along with their parents was taken. The sample was divided into under achievers and over achievers on the basis of their performance on various cognitive tasks. Discriminant analysis was applied to see differences between these groups and to check the adequacy of the variables included in the investigation for correctly classifying different subjects into different groups. The results show that familial variables effect the cognitive development of the child.
